AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Young Republican Federation and Texas Federation of College Republicans released the following joint statement today regarding House Resolution 72, which amends the Texas House rules and makes it easier to remove Democrat committee leaders who prevented the 87th Legislature from conducting official business during the First and Second Special Sessions.
“For almost 50 years, Republicans and Democrats have worked together to ensure our House functioned, in a way our Congress does not. That is why members of the minority party have been made Chairs of committees — it was a sign of trust that all Representatives wanted the state to work. After 40 days in hiding, every member of the Texas House Democratic Caucus ruined that trust and all of them must now pay a price. For our state to continue to function, we ask the Republican majority to pass House Resolution 72, take full control of our House, and remove all Democrats from committee leadership.”
