AUSTIN (Aug. 1, 2016) – Today marks a historic day for students on public college and university campuses across the state of Texas. Starting today, students will be able to better defend themselves and those around them when threatened with violence. No longer do our institutions of higher learning have to be a decision between learning and personal safety. In light of shootings and violence on campuses with unarmed faculty and students, such as Virginia Tech and Umpqua Community College, it is more important than ever that students have the right to defend themselves. The Texas Young Republicans celebrate this victory for the Constitutional rights of not only the students of our colleges and universities, but for all Texans.
