AUSTIN  When Elon Musk announced his bid to acquire Twitter, he stated in his own words, “I believe in its potential to be a platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is an imperative for a functioning democracy.” The Texas Young Republicans released the following statement regarding Twitter’s acceptance of the $44 billion dollar offer by Musk to take over the platform.

“The Texas Young  Republican Federation overwhelmingly supports the right to free speech and public discourse,” said Peyton LaBauve, Texas Young Republican Federation Policy Director. “We support the right of every person, no matter their beliefs, to engage in dialogue, and entities like Twitter which claim to be ‘the public square,’ should be held to the standard.”

“Texas Young Republicans welcome a free market solution to censorship and are encouraged by this move by Mr. Musk which we hope will affect change and serve as an example to others around the world.” LaBauve continued. “We appreciate his decisive leadership on this issue and commitment to free speech, the foundation of western society and democracy.”
